Platypus - Ornithorhynchus anatinus
The platypus is one of the most interesting chordates. From its bizarre and seemingly out of place bill, to its poisonous spur at the back of the males hind leg, the platypus is fascinating. Platypi are only found in Australia and eat aquatic invertebrates and insect larvae. The digestive system is quite unknown for the platypus fine grinds its food with its rough grinding pads. The digestive tract is known to be extremely small, sometimes as small as just 1.4 meters. Scientists analyze the food into the cheek pouches to learn about the digestive system.
