Planaria
The digestive system of the planaria includes a a gut cavity, pharynx, and mouth. The mouth is actually located on the underside of the Planaria. The mouth releases digestive enzymes, much like a human digestive system, on food in order to help break it down and prepare it for digestion. The partially digested food is then brought into the pharynx and then into the stomach. This is where the nutrients are absorbed from the digested food and then distributed to the rest of the body where they are needed. Planarians eat seed shrimp, clam shrimp, water fleas, and dead animals using a straw like appendage that extends from their stomaches. They eat almost like a vacuum, sucking up smaller animals in the water.
